Indian Air Force Comes to Jamia for Higher Education of Personnel

Aug. 13, 2015: Adding a new dimension to its educational profile, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), a Central University by an Act of Parliament, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the esteemed Indian Air Force (IAF) to provide vertical and academic mobility to its personnel and officers.

The MoU entered into by the two institutions records mutual intent for academic collaboration between JMI and IAF for academic and technical advancement and progression of IAF personnel and officers.

The IAF conducts ab-initio/in-service training programmes for its personnel at training centres across the country. The recognition of the in-service training and courses following credit determination would make IAF personnel and officers eligible for admission in JMI for various academic programmes. A Joint-Equivalence Committee would be involved in credit determination for all theoretical and practical components of academic-cum-training programmes in the IAF.  The admission to Jamia courses would be through the Centre for Distance and Open Learning that will lead to award of degrees on fulfillment of statutory requirements.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Shahid Ashraf, Registrar, JMI and AVM S.S. Sharma, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Education), IAF, Air Headquarters in the presence of Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, JMI, senior academics and officials from JMI and IAF.

Elaborating on the need for such an agreement AVM S.S. Sharma observed that it was a historic moment for the IAF to enter into collaboration with JMI which has a distinguished history with regard to nation building and burgeoning reputation as institution of excellence.

Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, JMI stated that it was a proud moment for the university to be associated with IAF that offers selfless service to the country by safeguarding its boundaries and providing critical support in the domain of defence. He felt that both the institutions could work together to mutually benefit both IAF personnel and Jamia students. Together, they could also explore joint collaborative projects that would enable IAF to share its expertise and technical know-how with Jamia students and reciprocally benefit from university’s resources and competencies for promotion of vertical and academic mobility of IAF personnel and officers. That was the least Jamia could offer to the Indian Air Force that makes huge sacrifices for the nation, he added.
