Jamia Student, Saniuddin Khan, Wins First Prize at Int’l Students Film Festival

Saniuddin Khan, a student of M.A Visual Effects and Animation, AJK Mass Communication Research Center, Jamia Millia Islamia, has won first prize in the student category for his ad-film titled, “Living Star,” at the MBICEM First Frame 2015 Seventh International Students Film Festival, held on 16th and 17th April, 2015 at Sri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi.

Eleven films were short-listed and screened at the festival under this category, out of which, his film won the first prize. The award also carried a cash prize of Rs. 15,000.

The short film titled ‘Living Star’ is based on a social issue. The film is a work of Stop-Motion Animation. The film is made using sand animation which is done by making art on a lightboard and then attaching its pictures frame by frame.

The film deals with the increasing traffic accidents in the country. The frequency of traffic collisions in India is amongst the highest in the world. A National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report revealed that every year, more than 135,000 traffic collision-related deaths occur in India. Hence, this ad film gives its viewer the message to drive safely and follow traffic rules. The clip starts by showing a car moving in a rash manner, playing loud music on the road. The car suddenly hits something causing a grave accident and killing the people inside. The film conveys the message: don’t kill yourself in road accidents and become a star of the sky; instead drive safe and become a living star.

Saniuddin Khan is a keen artist and a creative enthusiast. He previously studied Fine Arts from JMI.
