UGC Fellowship Recipients Will Now Also be Required to Work for the University

According to a Jamia internal circular dated April 28 issued by the Registrar’s Office, research students receiving JRF, SRF or PDF fellowship from the UGC will now be required to work up to 10 hours a week for the university without any monetary compensation for their work, apart from the regular fellowship they receive.

The work, however, is limited to academic work, which will include: teaching classes, evaluation of test papers, lab work, supervision of field work, library activities, etc.

Though research students asked to teach a class will not be paid for their work, they will receive an experience certificate from the university.

It is important to note, the circular does not mention research students receiving non-NET fellowship, therefore it is safe to assume non-NET fellowship recipients are excluded from this stipulated fellowship clause.
