Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Inaugurates a New High-Tech Lab

[Following is a Jamia press release dated Jan. 2, 2012]

Jamia Millia Islamia has made another major stride in the area of Nanotechnology and Nanoscience.

Mr. Najeeb Jung, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia, inaugurated a unique facility on the synthesis of ‘Single Wall Carbon Nanotube’ at the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at Jamia. This facility is exclusively dedicated for the synthesis of semiconducting ‘Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes’ for the fabrication of emerging nanoscale electronic devices and circuits, which will have a huge impact on future production.

This facility at Jamia Millia Islamia is a completely unique facility of its type in the country, which is exclusively meant for the synthesis of semiconducting ‘Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes’. The extra ordinary electrical, mechanical, thermal and coupled electromechanical properties of these ‘Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes’ make them very attractive material for nanosensors and futuristic VLSI circuits, especially beyond the silicon domain. Once produced, these will have a huge impact on the industry.

The centre has focused its activities on the perfection of semiconducting ‘Single Wall Carbon Nanotube’ as a futuristic material of 21st century. The centre has plans to focus its research and development activities in the area of ‘Single Wall Carbon Nanotube’ based nano device fabrication with an emphasis on nano-biosensors, laboratory on chip/drug delivery system, physical sensors and ultra high speed devices and circuits.
