Three-Week Training Programme in “Conflict Analysis and Peace-Building” – Dec. 3-22

The Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (NMCPCR), Jamia Millia Islamia in collaboration with Rotary Education Foundation is going to organize a Three-Week Training Programme in “Conflict Analysis and Peace-Building” from December 3-22, 2012 with the aim of training young Indian professionals to combat the many conflicts going on in India today. The Programme is aimed at promoting the capacity development of professionals in the age-group of 25-40 who are serving in government departments and agencies or media or working with NGOs and are based in the field.

The Inaugural Function is scheduled to be held on December 3, 2012 at 11 AM in Tagore Hall, Dayar-I Mir Taqi Mir, Administrative Block, Jamia Millia Islamia.

Mr. Najeeb Jung, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia shall Chair the Inaugural Function. He will also deliver the Inaugural Address.

Mr. Sushil Gupta, Padma Shri, Past Director, Rotary International shall be the Chief Guest of the programme. Mr. Ranjan Dhingra, Chairman, REF, RI District 3010 will be the Guest of Honour in the Inaugural Function.

The Training Programme will provide a general understanding of the key elements of conflict analysis and peace-building and is focused on internal conflicts. It will seek to provide a deeper understanding of some of the protracted and deep-rooted domestic conflicts in India like the Kashmir problem, the conflicts in the North East and the Naxal issues.

As part of the Training Programme, participants will be undertaking a field trip to Manipur from December 12-19, 2012. The purpose of the field trip is to understand the different viewpoints and perspectives of the conflicts in Manipur and get a firsthand understanding of the ground realities.

The training is being attended by IAS/IPS/Indian Forest Service officers from Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Manipur, Journalists reporting from conflict areas, and civil society activists.

All are cordially invited to the inaugural function to be held on December 3, 2012 at 11 AM in Tagore Hall, Dayar-I Mir Taqi Mir, Administrative Block, Jamia Millia Islamia.
