POETRY: Doing the Wrong Things for the Right Reason

Bending the rules, what we believe in
Doing the Wrong things for the Right reason
Patching up our soul through false excuses
Consoling ourselves; making false truces.

Eating three meals, sleeping tight at night
Offering prayers on Fridays, trying to feel right
Going on with life as if there’ll be no end
After all, we’re all just common men.

Bending the rules, what we believe in
Doing the Wrong things for the Right reason
We did more good than others would
We did less bad than others could.

We weren’t born knowing what’s right
Meant to understand it, make a future bright
But in the struggle; the desire to live our present fully
We forget the fact that this is not how it’s meant to be

The thin line between what’s right and wrong
Keeps on blurring as life goes on

We close our eyes to all that isn’t immediately seen
And are somehow happy being in this state of oblivion
We are the 21st century; practical men and women

And we bend the rules to suit what we believe in
Doing the Wrong things for the ‘Right’ reason.
