Outreach Programme Holds a Book Donation Drive on Campus

The Outreach Programme, Jamia Millia Islamia, in collaboration with the Youth Empowerment Services (YES) organized a book donation drive called ‘Give & Take Books’ on campus, Wednesday, Aug. 17,  2011.

Three book collection stalls were set up on campus at the following locations: at the Maulana Azad gate on the main campus, at the Faculty of Humanities and Languages, and at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

When asked about the initiative,  Nabeel Ahmed, a graduate student in the Department of Bio-Sciences, and one of the organizers behind the counter at the main campus stall said, these stalls have been set up to collect used books that people might have to donate for the needy. Collection will run for two days, today and tomorrow, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. And then on Tuesday, Aug. 23, we will hold an exhibition here on the main campus lawn, where all the books collected will be given away to those who need it. Unlike the last time, where we asked people to visit designated book centers to collect their books.

Ahmed went on to say: we have collected 11 books in total at this time (12:30 p.m.). Which isn’t many, but since this is the first day, and a lot of people have learned about the book drive only today, we hope to collect a lot more by tomorrow.
