EDITORIAL: Good Luck on the New Academic Year (2011-2012)

Monday, July 18, ushers in the new academic year for Jamia Millia Islamia. And if you’re a returning student, Jamia Journal welcomes you back;  however, if this is your first year at Jamia, then we welcome you aboard.

For Jamia Journal this is our second year, though in actual terms, we’re not more than 8 months old. However, during this time, we have grown immensely from a one man operation, with a readership of hardly a dozen people in a week, to a several man operation with a readership of few hundred people in a week.

For us these past few months have been really exciting. Besides a growing popularity and recognition among the student body — the kind of recognition we cherish over all other — we have also been more formally recognized in Jamia’s official magazine, “Jauhar” (Link to article), and in the national daily, “The Hindu” (Link to article).

This year, with a bigger staff of writers, we hope to be more regular in our updates and aim to cover more campus events than last year. And as always, we look for student contributions who have truly made our venture into a success; because besides the objective to inform, we also aim to be a platform for expression by students; be it in prose or poetry.

We are really looking forward to a promising year ahead, and we hope you, our readers, will join us and share in with our fun and excitement.
