The demonstration was held in solidarity with the people of Egypt protesting for the past few days in Cairo against Mubarak’s autocratic regime.

When Lalita Sharma, a Jamia student, was asked why she was protesting in solidarity with the people of Egypt, she replied: “we students come forward and uprise together so that we can make others believe that if we stand, the world stands with us.”

The protest took place under the aegis of All India Students Association (AISA) and the Students Islamic Organization (SIO). However, besides university students organizations, some social and civil organizations were also a part of the demonstration.
