According to the Times of India, Dr. Binayak Sen is a physician and a human rights activist working in the Naxal influenced region of Chhattisgarh.

On Dec. 24, a Raipur sessions court sentenced Sen to a life imprisonment for the crime of, ‘conspiring to commit sedition.’ Which is to say, he was secretly working–along with others–against the interest of the Indian State.

However, many have claimed that the evidence used to convict him is not only weak, but unreliable.

As a consequence, many civil and human rights groups have protested against the judgment of the court and have demanded the immediate release of Binayak Sen.

Monday’s public demonstration was one such public expression of dissent.
