According to an article titled “Jamia to confer doctorate on Aung San Suu Kyi” in the IndiaEducationReview.com dated Jan. 30, 2012 — Jamia plans to confer an honorary doctorate to Myanmar’s noted political leader Aung San Suu Kyi for her over two-decade fight for democracy in the country.
The Vice Chancellor, Najeeb Jung, is quoted to have said: “We at Jamia Millia Islamia want to hold a special convention for conferring an honorary doctorate on Aung San Suu Kyi.”
As per the article, “Aung San Suu Kyi is a Burmese opposition politician and the General Secretary of the National League for Democracy. She remained under house arrest in Burma for almost 15 of the 21 years from 20 July 1989 until her most recent release on 13 November 2010.”
